I test the Zigbee moisture detector for green plants (SGS01Z)

Verification of the Receipt Model

There are many references for these sensors. The model I received does not display any product reference, but I noted ‘SGS01Z’ on the side of the box.

Sensor box

There is a model HZ-SL04, I do not know if it is the same or not.

Product Description

The product consists of a ‘spike’ to be planted in the ground, which is the sensor, and a high part containing the electronics and the battery compartment. Blue protection protects electronics and batteries from splashing.

Where to buy this equipment?

Here is the link to the page dedicated to SGS01Z. I referenced the sellers and prices.

Installation of Batteries

I inserted 2 AAA batteries (not included). The blue LED flashes, but the Zigbee pairing does not appear to start immediately after inserting the batteries.

Integration with Zigbee2MQTT

I activated the pairing mode on Zigbee2MQTT and pressed the button for 6 seconds as indicated in the user manual. The pairing started and the module was integrated quickly!

Successful pairing

Recognized module

The module is well recognised under reference TS0601 and the image corresponds to the module. The data are correctly retrieved and work:

Value Tests

In the previous image, the sensor, not planted in the ground, displays 9% moisture content. By placing it in a glass of water, it rises to 100%. In the earth, it indicates 20%, which means it is time to water. The values seem correct.

Integration in Home Assistant

I found my equipment in Home Assistant. I have disabled unnecessary functionalities, and here is my available and functional sensor:

Functional sensor

The sensor is perfectly integrated!

I add the information in my dashboard

My main dashboard consists of a single picture-elements card.

To be able to use the markdown cards, I have already explained in this tutorial how to do:

And I made a markdown card that will display a logo and a percentage. The logo and color of the percentage varies depending on the value.
The result is as follows:

Here is the yaml code to do this:

Type: picture-elements image: /local/xxx.png elements: - type: custom:mod-card card: Type: markdown content: &gt; {% set moisture = states('sensor.plante_canapé _soil _moisture') | float%} {% if moisture &gt;= 60 %💧<br><font color="deepskyblue">**{{ moisture}}%**</font>
        {% elif moisture &gt;= 20 %🌱<br><font color="limegreen">**{{month }}%**</font>
        {% elif moisture &gt; 10 %🌿<br><font color="#ffa600">**{{ moisture }}%**</font>
        {% else %} ⚠<br><font color="#db4437">**{{ moisture }}%**</font>
        {% endif %} card_mod: style: | :host { --ha-card-background: transparent!important; --ha-card-box-shadow: none; } style: top: 76% left: 62% - type: custom:mod-card card: Type: markdown content: &gt; {% set moisture = states('sensor.plante_tele_soil _moisture') | float %} {% if moisture &gt;= 60 %💧<br><font color="deepskyblue">**{{ moisture}}%**</font>
        {% elif moisture &gt;= 20 %🌱<br><font color="limegreen">**{{month }}%**</font>
        {% elif moisture &gt; 10 %🌿<br><font color="#ffa600">**{{ moisture }}%**</font>
        {% else %} ⚠<br><font color="#db4437">**{{ moisture }}%**</font>
        {% endif %} card_mod: style: | :host { --ha-card-background: transparent!important; --ha-card-box-shadow: none; } style: top: 59% left: 55%
