I'm testing the Frient Door/Window sensor, WISZB range

🔍 I check the received model

I start my test with the Frient Entry Sensor Pro with the reference WISZB-120, a Zigbee 3.0 sensor designed to accurately detect the opening of doors and windows in a home automation installation.

This model made by Develco for Frient is distinguished by its high-precision temperature sensor and anti-sabotage tamper switch, features that I particularly like to enhance the security of my home.

To contextualize, I compare with the WISZB-121 basic version without temperature or tamper, and the WISZB-131 Entry Sensor 2 Pro which offers the temperature but omits the physical tamper, where the original Pro remains the favorite for its complete balance. It is difficult to choose your model for purchase, often only one model is offered.

  • On the technical sheet : The WISZB-120 exposes binary contact, temperature (±0.5°C accuracy, 0.1°C resolution), dedicated tamper, battery and linkquality, as detailed on zigbee.blakadder.com.
  • On the carton : The reference WISZB-120 is printed prominently, facilitating immediate verification.
  • Type of equipment : Ultra-sensitive magnetic detector for deviations of 0.1 to 1 cm between sensor and magnet, optimized for doors, windows or interior gates.

📦 Unpacking and First Impressions

The package arrives well packed and I unpack immediately: the main sensor, the fine sensing magnet, two AAA batteries at the bottom of the box, fastening screws and a concise but comprehensive multilingual user manual. The matte plastic design is both discreet and robust, with a size that I find large but visibly fits all frames without clutter.

🔧 Power On / Enclosure Opening

I start by checking the included AAA batteries: they show perfect tension without traces of premature wear. The case is opened via an intuitive side clip, without the need for tools, allowing me to inspect the impeccable interior and the tamper mechanism that protects against any attempt to break in. This step confirms the ease of maintenance, a point often praised in home automation tests.

🏡 Where I install it

For an authentic test, I attach the sensor to the top frame of my main front door, and the magnet to the movable leaf, ensuring an accurate alignment of 0.5 cm for optimal detection. I avoided conventional traps such as direct exposure to the sun that would skew the temperature, or wetlands that might condense; Zigbee range is excellent even at 15m through 2 walls, as reported by the Reddit community.

🔗 I pair in Zigbee2MQTT

  • I launch the peering mode in the Zigbee2MQTT web interface, accessible via my HA.

  • I place the batteries; the LED of the sensor flashes red. I had a lot of connection failures.
  • Finally, I understood how to reset, we leave the button pressed, the led flashes once, then twice and then quickly, we let go at that moment. And finally, the pairing starts.
  • The device joins the network, identified as "Develco WISZB120 ″.

  • Orders and information are well identified

Here are the presentations of the Frient Entry Sensor Pro WISZB-120 in Zigbee2MQTT, captured after successful pairing. This data is displayed in real time and feeds directly into Home Assistant. I detail them one by one with their concrete role in my home automation.

📱 Contact
Contact indicates the opening state of the door or window. When the value changes to ‘open’, this means that the magnet has moved away from the sensor. When it is closed, everything is normal. It is this state that I use in my Home Assistant automations to trigger an audible alarm or push notification if opening detected at night.

🔋 Low Battery
Low battery reports if AAA batteries are nearing the end of life. The value is "false" as long as everything is fine, and goes to "true" around 20-30% remaining. It is this info that warns me by HA alert to change the batteries before failure, avoiding surprises on critical sensor.

🚨 Tamper
Tamper detects any attempt to sabotage or open the case. It is "false" in normal operation, and "true" if forced manipulation. It is this signal that I am integrating into the security scenario: tamper + contact open = immediate siren alert + guardian call.

🌡 Temperature
Temperature measures the ambient value in degrees Celsius, here 20.87°C with update every 2 minutes. This is the precise measurement (±0.5°C) that I monitor for comfort automation: if <18°C open window, auto heating; or ventilation if >26°C.

🔋 Battery %
Battery in % displays the remaining level of the batteries, "Null % » out of nine because not calibrated yet. This value evolves slowly over 8-9 years. I add it to an HA dashboard to track wear and plan changes grouped with other sensors.

⚡ Voltage Battery
Voltage battery shows voltage in millivolts, 3000 mV for fresh batteries. It gradually falls with discharge. This precise measurement allows me to check health batteries and anticipate if <2600 mV.

📶 Linkquality
Linkquality evaluates the strength of the Zigbee link in LQI (0-255), here 144 excellent (>120 ok). The higher the value, the more stable the connection. If I see a persistent fall below 50, I move closer to the hub or add a Zigbee router to avoid disconnections.

All these exposures work nickel in HA. Zero config supp, full battery, strong signal. Ideal home automation!

Before leaving Zigbee2MQTT, I renamed the team ‘La Porte’.

🏠 Integration in Home Assistant

Integration into Home Assistant is smooth thanks to automatic discovery via Z2M: the binary_sensor contact reacts in real time to each opening, the temperature is updated every 2 minutes with remarkable accuracy, and the tamper triggers immediate alerts in case of suspicious manipulation. Certified "Works with Home Assistant" since 2025, it supports wireless OTA updates, and low battery prevents to 20% Well ahead of time. Users confirm perfect compatibility without notable quirks.

📊 My first measurements

I have more than 50 opening/closing cycles: the detection shall be carried out in less than one second each time, without any false positives once the magnet is perfectly aligned. The temperature measured at 21.3°C corresponds to my thermometer calibrated at 21.2°C, demonstrating exceptional accuracy. The tamper, on the other hand, activates instantly as soon as the case is opened, validating its security role.

🔍 What Home automation communities are saying

Reported problems: Some report a slow initial pairing if the hub is remote (Reddit r/homeassistant), Model 2 Pro surprises with the absence of physical tamper despite the similar price, and rare status delays on ZHA with Frient cousins products like the smoke detector.

Positive feedback from users: "The most reliable and robust on the market" (thread Reddit HA on Frient entry sensors), "Excellent, easy pairing and long battery on SmartThings" (reviews Frient.com), precise temperature comparable to the fraternal Motion Sensor Pro.

My personal tips: Align the magnet to the nearest millimetre for zero false; prefer Z2M to ZHA; update firmware via Z2M; reinforce the adhesive with industrial double-sided scotch for wood frames.

💬 My opinion after commissioning

✅ Undoubted strengths: Exemplary reliability validated by the community, hyper-precise temperature for reliable domestic monitoring, tamper essential for real security, autonomy 9 years visibly credible, Zigbee2M/HA integration certified and without a hitch.

❌ Notable weaknesses: Price considered high compared to low-cost Chinese alternatives, IP40 protection limiting indoors only, standard size not mini but practical, sometimes capricious pairing in crowded environment.

My final verdict: Despite its premium rate, the Frient WISZB-120 stands out as a leader in Zigbee input sensors thanks to its impeccable Danish quality, longevity and advanced functions. A profitable investment for any serious home automation - I highly recommend!
