Automate Toilet Light

In this article, I will automate the lights in the toilet and shoe closet at the entrance.

Exceptionally, no home automation equipment, just presence detectors in addition.

Of course, as I have to do, I say: if you are not a certified electrician, certified with a thousand very expensive papers and authorisations from independent and very expensive bodies, Do not touch electricity, it is dangerous.

Here is the existing basic configuration:

Nothing very complex, each lamp is connected to the neutral and it is the phase that passes through the switch, when the switch closes, the phase is sent to the lamp that lights up.

My goal

I would like to:

  • Remove switches
  • Automate ignition/extinguishing at the shoe/coat cupboard of the entrance
  • Automate the ignition/extinguishing of toilet light
  • Make both lights turn on at the same time (optional)

New scheme

  • Presence detectors therefore replace switches. There are presence detectors that can be placed instead of switches, but since I do not have the neutral to switches, I preferred to put it close to the lamp that has the neutral.
  • The red wire between the two lamps is added to the network, so that the two lamps light up at the same time.
  • At the level of the switches, it is enough to connect the wires between them (red and purple thread on the drawing)

Materials I used and cost of modification

The choice of motion detector is important, without breaking the bank either. I chose this one:

To hide the missing switches, I took:

For cable connections, forget about dominoes (grandfather's sugars), switch to automatic dominoes or Wago (or compatible)

Note that I took the opportunity to change the lights, I took this led pavement, very well, I wanted it in cold white and not too expensive. There's something for every price.
