I am testing the Meian SR01-ZB indoor Zigbee 3.0 siren (TS0224)

Who is Meian?

Meian Technology is a high-tech company founded in 2014 in Shenzhen, China. It specializes in research and development, production and sales of consumer electronics and smart home solutions.

The company has an experienced R&D team of engineers and product designers. It has also partnered with leading technology companies, such as Tuya and Alibaba, to improve its development and production capabilities.

Meian Technology has developed a wide range of home automation products, including smart switches, smart sockets, motion sensors, door/window sensors, smart LED bulbs and security cameras. These products are designed to be easy to install and use, and can be controlled remotely via a mobile app or voice command by integrating them with voice assistants like Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.

The company has established business relationships with customers in more than 50 countries and regions around the world, and has won several awards and certifications for its products and services, such as CE certification, FCC certification and RoHS certification.

Where to buy this equipment?

Here is the link to the page dedicated to SR01-ZB. I referenced the sellers and prices.

I open the box and check the received model

A label in Chinese must give references, I note SR01-ZB which must be the model of the delivered product.

I plug in the siren and try a Zigbee2MQTT integration

I put Zigbee2MQTT in pairing mode and plug the siren into the sector.

It beeps (violably) once and lights up 1s and then turns off.

It is immediately integrated into the zigbee network, I did nothing more.

The siren is detected as a TS0224. The photo is in accordance with the siren.

At this stage, integration has been successful, and the siren is well taken care of.

The commands seem simple, I will test all this immediately.

Modes

There are 7 modes:

  • fire, police _panic, fire _panic, emergency _panic They do nothing at all, they are useless.
  • burglar launches a siren without any flashing of the red leds.
  • fire launches a siren with flashing red leds
  • stop Stop the siren

Other options in the Warning framework

All other options are totally useless.

The volume of the sound

The volume is not regulated, I think it is always at maximum, it is quite strong. Not deafening but very unpleasant, I think enough to scare away.

The commercial documentation gives for 100db (the notice cf at the bottom even gives 110db). It seems a little less strong to me, but I have nothing to measure and verify it.

Ringing time

Time is not to be defined in Warning but in general with the option Duration

The adjustment can be done between 0 and 3600s

LEDS lighting

Small bonus on this model, and this is the first time I have met it

Activation on ON turns on the siren’s LEDs and Off turns it off, which is unrelated to any ringing. I think the possibility is very useful. For example, I have the idea of switching on LEDS when my portal is open, for example.

I give a name to my mermaid (Sirène Meian) and I go to Home Assistant

I test the siren in Home Assistant

It is really very light, we will have to work again to use this siren in HA

I play a little with the light icons, it turns on and off the LEDs, HA realises on its own that it is an on/off and turns the icon into a switch, perfect.

I'll see later if I leave it switched or if I switch it to light.

For variable xx the HA interface asks me to put a value between 60 and 3600s, I cannot put less than 60s (which I could force via Zigbee2MQTT)

I therefore set 60s, as a reminder, French regulations limit an alarm bell to 3 minutes.

I test the siren by flying it via a Publish MQTT

There is no ready-made button in the integration to trigger the siren, it must be done differently.

So I will try to trigger the siren by asking Zigbee2MQTT to launch a warning with tone burglar.

The Zigbee2MQTT Documentation gives:

Warning (composite)

Can be set by publishing to zigbee2mqtt/FRIENDLY_NAME/set with payload {"warning": {"mode": VALUE, "level": VALUE, "strobe _level": VALUE, "strobe": VALUE, "strobe _duty _cycle": VALUE, "duration": VALUE}}

  • mode (enum): Mode of the warning (sound effect) allowed values: stop, burglar, fire, emergency, _panic Police, fire_panic, emergency_panic
  • level (enum): Sound level allowed values: low, medium, high, very_high
  • strobe _level (enum): Intensity of the strobe allowed values: low, medium, high, very_high
  • strobe (binary): Turn on/off the strobe (light) during warning allowed values: true gold false
  • Strobe _duty _cycle (numeric): Length of the flash cycle max value is 10
  • duration (numeric): Duration in seconds of the alarm unit is s

But I know from previous tests that none of these commands work.

In Development Tools/Services, I will trigger:

Service: mqtt.publish data: topic: zigbee2mqtt/Sirène Meian/set payload: '{"warning": {"mode": "burglar"}}'

It works perfectly, the siren starts ringing when the command is launched.

I could thus use a command to launch the siren and a command to stop the siren (using the mode stop.

I will add a switch (on/off) that manages the triggering of the siren

I add the switch

I go to Settings / Devices and Services / Inputs / Create Input / Switch

I add automation

I am creating an automation that will react to the state changes of this input_boolean.sirene_meian

alias: Mermaid Control Meian Description: "" trigger: - platform: state entity _id: - input_boolean.sirene_meian condition: [] action: - service: mqtt.publish metadata: {} data: topic: zigbee2mqtt/Sirène Meian/set payload _template: | {% if is_state('input_boolean.sirene_meian', 'on') %} {"warning": {"mode": "burglar"}} {% else %} {"warning": {"mode": "stop"}} {% endif %} mode: single

Testing the router function on the Zigbee network

As I suspected since it is plug-in equipment, this siren improves the quality of the Zigbee network, it plays well the role of router, in a few seconds a lot of equipment hung up on it in a few minutes, that is a very good sign.

Conclusion

This siren first price does the minimum but does it correctly.

The sound volume is correct, and it is not adjustable.

The possibility to turn it on or off the LEDS the siren, or triggering the alarm is truly a plus undeniable.

It's connected to a socket, so no battery worries or sustainability, it is an option of tranquility. Note a router function of the Zigbee network that seems operational.

It does not have a built-in battery or battery Unlike the other Zigbee alarms I tested, this is a big flaw, in the event of a power cut, the siren will not ring.

Comparison of Zigbee sirens

To go further and help choose, I made a comparison of several Zigbee sirens.
