href=\"https:\/\/www.sigalou-domotique.fr\/en\/product\/smart-lock-ultra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nuki Smart Lock Ultra<\/a> on my front door, I have already made a <strong>leap forward<\/strong> comfort side: More key to look for, opening from the smartphone, integration into Home Assistant (my home automation platform) \u2026 in short, everyday life has become much more myself a little too often:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cOK, the <strong>lock<\/strong> is locked \u2026 but is \u2011 what the <strong>door<\/strong> Is it really closed?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That is when I decided to add the <strong>Nuki <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sigalou-domotique.fr\/en\/product\/door-sensor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Door But the real difference with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sigalou-domotique.fr\/en\/product\/door-sensor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Door Sensor<\/a> Nuki\u2019s position is that this equipment is part of the<strong>Nuki Ecosystem<\/strong> :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sigalou-domotique.fr\/en\/product\/door-sensor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Door Sensor<\/a> communicates continuously with the lock;<\/li>\n<li>the Lock <strong>adapts his behavior<\/strong> depending on the condition of the door (open\/closed);<\/li>\n<li>everything is configured in the same place, in the<strong>Nuki App<\/strong>, without going through Home Assistant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For example, the lock will not move until the door is closed, and conversely, as soon as the door is closed, the lock can lock automatically.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, all this is configured via the Nuki app, in an integrated and independent way, without the need to open Home Assistant. The sensor measures the <strong>magnetic field<\/strong> issued by the magnet and, based on this measurement, determines whether the door is considered <strong>closed<\/strong> or <strong>open<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u26a0  Important:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sigalou-domotique.fr\/en\/product\/door-sensor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Door Sensor<\/a> is planned for the <strong>wooden or plastic doors<\/strong> ;<\/li>\n<li>the <strong>metal doors<\/strong> and <strong>sliding doors<\/strong> are not supported (the metal disrupts the measurement, and the sliding doors are completely out of the intended geometry).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If your front door is made of metal, this sensor is not suitable: it will then be necessary to start on another solution (classic home automation sensor + logic in Home Assistant, for example).<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%F0%9F%A7%AA_Capteur_Nuki_vs_capteurs_douverture_%E2%80%9Cclassiques%E2%80%9D_ONOFF_binaire\"><\/span>\ud83e\uddea Nuki sensor vs \u201cclassic\u201d aperture sensors (binary ON\/OFF)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This is where Nuki makes a choice <strong>technological<\/strong> very different from our famous small door\/window sensors Zigbee\/Z-Wave at 10\u201320 \u20ac.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%F0%9F%94%8C_Comment_fonctionne_un_contact_magnetique_classique_Reed\"><\/span>\ud83d\udd0c How does a conventional magnetic contact (Reed) work?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Conventional door\/window sensors are usually based on a <strong>Reed Switch<\/strong> :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the magnet is close \u2192 the metal slats of the Reed touch \u2192 the circuit is <strong>closed<\/strong> ;<\/li>\n<li>the magnet moves away \u2192 the slats separate \u2192 the circuit is <strong>open<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11727\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sigalou-domotique.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/No6-JPC-protection-des-ampoules-reed-6-300x171-1.jpg\" alt=\"Reed switch\" width=\"300\" height=\"171\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sigalou-domotique.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/No6-JPC-protection-des-ampoules-reed-6-300x171-1.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sigalou-domotique.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/No6-JPC-protection-des-ampoules-reed-6-300x171-1-18x10.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is <strong>binary<\/strong>, ultra simple, very robust \u2026 but limited:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the sensor only \u201cincludes\u201d <strong>ON\/OFF<\/strong> (near\/not close);<\/li>\n<li>He can't tell the difference between <strong>slightly ajar<\/strong> and <strong>wide open door<\/strong> : as soon as the tipping distance is exceeded, it is \u201copen\u201d, point.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is perfect for many uses (perimeter alarm, simple opening info), but we remain on a logic <strong>all or nothing<\/strong> which does not take into account the small mechanical nuances of the door.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%F0%9F%92%B6_Ce_que_fait_Nuki_de_plus_et_pourquoi_cest_plus_cher\"><\/span>\ud83d\udcb6 What Nuki does more (and why it's more expensive)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sigalou-domotique.fr\/en\/product\/door-sensor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Door Sensor<\/a> Nuki\u2019s switch is not limited to a simple binary Reed switch: he uses a <strong>Magnetic Sensor<\/strong> more sophisticated measuring the<strong>Magnetic field strength<\/strong> generated by the magnet.<\/p>\n<p>Nuki does not specify whether it is a Hall effect sensor or a magnetoresistive sensor.<\/p>\n<p>During calibration, the sensor records the signal value in different positions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>door <strong>closed<\/strong> ;<\/li>\n<li>door <strong>open<\/strong> (with a gradual shift between the two).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Next, Nuki defines <strong>internal thresholds<\/strong> to decide whether, at a moment T, the door should be considered as <strong>closed<\/strong> or <strong>open<\/strong>. Powering on and pairing<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The sensor works on a <strong>battery ER14250<\/strong>. When it is first put into service (withdrawn tongue), it is put into service. <strong>maintenance mode<\/strong>, ready to be added.<\/p>\n<p>From the Nuki app:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Menu \u2192 <strong>Manage devices<\/strong> \u2192 <strong>Accessories<\/strong> \u2192 <strong>Nuki Door Sensor<\/strong> ;<\/li>\n<li>the assistant is followed, the lock detects the sensor using Bluetooth;<\/li>\n<li>once paired, we <strong>clips<\/strong> the sensor on its mounting plate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you want to reset\/modify the installation later, you can use the <strong>anti-\u2011sabotage button<\/strong> on the back to return it to maintenance mode. door <strong>open<\/strong> on YOUR specific installation.<\/p>\n<p>The assistant asks you, step by step:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>from <strong>close<\/strong> the door \u2192 sensor records the \u2018closed door\u2019 value;<\/li>\n<li>d<strong>open<\/strong> the door according to the instructions \u2192 the sensor records the values associated with the open position.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Nuki insists very clearly on one point in his doc:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>it is necessary <strong>move the door slowly<\/strong> during these steps, so that the sensor correctly detects variations in the magnetic field.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>For a beginner: Do not skip this step, take the time to follow exactly what the app is asking for, without forcing or going too fast.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%F0%9F%98%85_Mes_galeres_et_comment_je_men_suis_sorti\"><\/span>\ud83d\ude05 My galleys (and how I got away with it)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I'm not going to lie: I did not behave perfectly at first.<\/p>\n<p>For example, I had:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>physically closed door, displayed \u201copen\u201d in the app;<\/li>\n<li>or a state that took time to update.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Going to see l<a href=\"https:\/\/help.nuki.io\/hc\/fr\/sections\/360005928258-Montage-et-configuration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a Nuki Troubleshooting Doc<\/a>, the main common causes are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>sensor\/magnet distance a little too limited (I have often been too close);<\/li>\n<li>Boiled Door <strong>too fast<\/strong> when calibrating (yes, it is written in the doc and everywhere and I was going too fast);<\/li>\n<li>light mechanical play in the door;<\/li>\n<li>sensor badly plated on its support (yes, I moved the sensor several times and the double-sided one needed to be redone).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On this last point, there is a trap with a small sensor <strong>anti-snapping<\/strong> (or \u201canti-sabotage\u201d).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-11737\" screen, the normal state of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sigalou-domotique.fr\/en\/product\/door-sensor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Door Sensor<\/a> and battery:<\/p>\n<p><img this status to be displayed <strong>\u201cremoved\u201d<\/strong>, is that many users have had the concern. Everyone can choose what they want to do: be notified all the time, only in absence mode, or not at all.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%F0%9F%A4%93_Et_cote_domotique_ca_donne_quoi\"><\/span>\ud83e\udd13 And on the home automation side, what does it look like?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As I explained in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sigalou-domotique.fr\/en\/je-connecte-la-nuki-smart-lock-ultra-a-ma-domotique\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">I connect the Nuki Smart Lock Ultra to my home automation<\/a> :<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11741\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sigalou-domotique.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Capture-decran-2026-06-14-175514-600x757-1.png\" alt=\"Nuki Entities in Home Assistant\" width=\"600\" height=\"757\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sigalou-domotique.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Capture-decran-2026-06-14-175514-600x757-1.png 600w, https:\/\/www.sigalou-domotique.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Capture-decran-2026-06-14-175514-600x757-1-238x300.png 238w, https:\/\/www.sigalou-domotique.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Capture-decran-2026-06-14-175514-600x757-1-10x12.png 10w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The status of the door (Open or Closed) can be found in Home Assistant, whether in MQTT or Matter.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, on the side of home automation integrations (Nuki Hub, MQTT, Home Assistant), we see that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sigalou-domotique.fr\/en\/product\/door-sensor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Door Sensor<\/a> is exposed as <strong>separate entity<\/strong>, in addition to the lock:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an entity <code>lock.xxx<\/code> for the Smart Lock;<\/li>\n<li>an entity <code>binary_sensor.xxx_door<\/code> (or equivalent) for the condition of the door.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Some Matter\/SmartThings drivers consider that <strong>anything that is not \u201cclosed\u201d is treated as \u201copen\u201d<\/strong>. In other words, if it is not explicitly closed, it is considered open.<\/p>\n<p>From there, we can imagine scenarios in Home Assistant:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>prevent an automatism from locking if <code>doorState!= closed<\/code> ;<\/li>\n<li>trigger an alert if the door switches to \u201copen\u201d while the house is in \u201cAbsent\u201d mode;<\/li>\n<li>turn on the \u2018closed \u2192 open\u2019 transition input lighting after dark.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For beginners: You don't have to get into this from day one. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sigalou-domotique.fr\/en\/product\/door-sensor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Door Sensor<\/a> already works very well with the Nuki app alone. The Home Assistant part is a <strong>second stage<\/strong> to go further.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%9C%85_Mon_avis_apres_installation\"><\/span>\u2705 My opinion after installation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>After a few weeks of use, my feeling is clear:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sigalou-domotique.fr\/en\/product\/door-sensor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Door Sensor<\/a> is <strong>the brick that was missing<\/strong> for the Nuki Smart Lock Ultra to have a coherent view of the whole <strong>lock + door<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The technological difference with a simple magnetic contact <strong>explains the price<\/strong> : we are no longer in the small generic binary sensor, but in an integrated module, calibrated, designed to work hand in hand with the lock.<\/li>\n<li>On the usage side, the \u2018door remained open\u2019 notifications and the possibility to exploit the state of the door in Home Assistant bring a real plus in comfort and security.<\/li>\n<li>The real plus is that the lock lock locks a few seconds after the door is closed: it\u2019s impressive, totally brilliant \u2026 and you get used to it way too quickly!<\/li>\n<\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\ud83d\udcd8\ud83d\udd10 Special file: Nuki Smart Lock Ultra This article is part of my complete dossier, from installation and home automation to accessories.
